Purchase raw wool for processing or resale. Source from growers and auctions, evaluate and grade fleeces, negotiate contracts, and coordinate logistics and compliance from shearing through delivery to mills or warehouses.
  • • Purchase raw wool for scouring, carding, combing, or resale to mills or brokers.
  • • Negotiate purchase terms and forward contracts with growers, brokers, or cooperatives.
  • • Arrange scouring, classing, baling, and resale of purchased wool.
  • • Arrange transportation and storage of bales, ensuring proper labeling and traceability.
  • • Review orders and forecasts to determine fiber types, microns, grades, and quantities required.
  • • Maintain records of transactions, lot numbers, test results, and inventories, reporting data to companies or marketing boards as required.
  • • Inspect and class fleeces; verify micron, staple length, yield, and color; identify contamination, mold, or pest damage.
  • • Coordinate or direct activities of shearing, sorting, and warehousing staff and maintain accurate records.
  • • Calculate clean yield, shrink, and pricing differentials for bids and settlements.
  • • Provide or arrange supplies and services such as wool packs, bale ties, or classing, arranging financing if necessary.
  • • Estimate flock production potential by reviewing flock size, breed mix, shearing history, nutrition, and pasture conditions.
  • • Advise growers on shearing preparation, skirting, contamination control, and handling practices to maximize quality and returns.
