Description
Set up, align, operate, and dismantle video projection systems, including projectors, lenses, screens, mounts, rigging, switchers, scalers, and media servers, for live or recorded events such as conferences, theaters, concerts, trade shows, and presentations. Maintain and troubleshoot projection, signal, and control systems to deliver accurate, high-quality images.
  • • Notify supervisors when major projector or media server repairs are needed.
  • • Monitor video inputs, signal paths, and projection outputs to ensure image quality; alert directors to issues.
  • • Design projection plots, screen layouts, and signal flow diagrams; plan upgrades and maintenance.
  • • Perform minor repairs and routine cleaning of projectors, lenses, filters, and optics.
  • • Switch and route video sources via switchers, scalers, and media servers during shows.
  • • Meet with producers and directors to review run-of-show, cueing, sightlines, and content requirements.
  • • Install and rig screens, projector mounts, lenses, and cabling per safety standards.
  • • Align, focus, and keystone projectors; perform warping and edge blending as required.
  • • Calibrate brightness, color, and geometry to match screens and ambient light.
  • • Load, organize, and test playback media on servers or laptops; verify codecs and resolutions.
  • • Encode, transcode, or compress video files to required formats and aspect ratios.
  • • Edit or trim playback clips and build cue lists and playlists.
  • • Direct and coordinate projection assistants and stagehands during setup, rehearsals, and strikes.
  • • Create and follow detailed projection cue sheets; integrate with lighting and audio cues.
  • • Maintain inventories of projectors, lenses, screens, cables, lamp or laser hours, and consumables.
  • • Determine screen size, throw distance, lensing, and brightness levels within budget constraints.
  • • Conduct site surveys to verify power, rigging points, ambient light, and throw paths.
  • • Provide users and presenters with guidelines on content specs, slide design, and presenter tools.
  • • Generate and display test patterns, slates, and simple graphics for alignment and rehearsal.
  • • Coordinate venues and vendors to secure screens, rigging hardware, lifts, and other necessities.
  • • Manage shutters, dowser, and blackout cues before, during, and after performances.
  • • Train staff or clients on basic operation of switchers, clickers, and playback systems.
  • • Organize and maintain compliance, license, and warranty information for projection and media systems.
  • • Develop quick-start guides and documentation for recurring projection setups.
  • • Install, network, and operate media servers, scalers, switchers, and control systems for presentations and shows.
  • • Diagnose and resolve projection and media system issues, including EDID/HDCP and timing mismatches.
  • • Reserve projection equipment, screens, and facilities as required.
  • • Analyze and maintain data logs for projector settings, lamp or laser hours, faults, and event performance.
