Audio and Video Technicians
Description
Install, service, and repair audio-visual equipment and control systems for offices, venues, and event sites. Diagnose issues, perform preventive maintenance and upgrades, calibrate and test microphones, speakers, mixers, cameras, displays, servers, and networks, and provide on-site and remote support for live or recorded events.
  • • Notify supervisors or clients when major repairs or replacements are required.
  • • Monitor audio and video signals to verify quality and escalate issues promptly.
  • • Calibrate and balance audio feeds and synchronize with video as needed.
  • • Design and document AV system layouts; perform upgrades and preventive maintenance.
  • • Perform minor repairs, cleaning, and firmware updates on AV equipment.
  • • Configure and test source switching and routing across matrices and switchers.
  • • Meet with clients, PMs, or production staff to scope issues, requirements, and timelines.
  • • Install and position AV, lighting, and related hardware to specifications.
  • • Configure codecs and workflows to compress, capture, and archive media as required.
  • • Set up and load media sources and playlists for scheduled meetings or events.
  • • Perform basic edits or trims to validate system functionality during service.
  • • Coordinate tasks with assistants, vendors, and on-site staff during service visits and events.
  • • Review drawings, specifications, and schematics to plan installs and service procedures.
  • • Maintain inventories of spare parts, loaner gear, and consumables.
  • • Recommend equipment, configurations, and settings to meet objectives within budget.
  • • Set up and test recording chains; capture test audio/video to validate performance.
  • • Inform users of service policies, warranty terms, and proper equipment use.
  • • Review run-of-show or meeting agendas to prepare systems and staffing.
  • • Load and test presentation graphics, signage, or lower-thirds content as needed.
  • • Source and secure replacement parts, cables, adapters, and accessories for service.
  • • Operate or troubleshoot lighting and sound systems during events as needed.
  • • Conduct end-user and staff training on AV system operation and best practices.
  • • Organize and maintain compliance, license, and warranty records for AV assets.
  • • Develop quick-start guides, SOPs, and service documentation.
  • • Provide on-site and remote technical support and status updates to stakeholders.
  • • Install, configure, test, and commission AV and video conferencing systems and control software.
  • • Diagnose and resolve AV system problems using test instruments and software.
  • • Schedule service appointments and coordinate access to rooms and equipment; arrange loaners when needed.
  • • Maintain service tickets, logs, and performance data; analyze trends to prevent recurrence.
