Description
Tenure-track faculty role teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in atmospheric, earth, marine, or space sciences; establishing an externally funded research program; mentoring students; and contributing to departmental and university service.
- • Conduct independent research in atmospheric, earth, marine, or space sciences and publish findings in peer-reviewed outlets.
- • Write grant proposals to secure external research funding.
- • Keep abreast of advances by reading current literature, conferring with colleagues, and attending conferences.
- • Supervise undergraduate and graduate research, internships, and teaching assistants.
- • Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduates and graduates on topics such as structural geology, micrometeorology, and atmospheric thermodynamics.
- • Develop course materials, including syllabi, assignments, labs, and online resources.
- • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and instructional methods.
- • Supervise laboratory and field activities, ensuring safety and data quality.
- • Evaluate and grade students' coursework, assignments, and papers.
- • Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or coordinate grading by TAs.
- • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
- • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
- • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and other required academic records.
- • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary teaching and research initiatives.
- • Advise students on academic pathways, research opportunities, and careers.
- • Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
- • Perform departmental service such as coordinating courses or overseeing laboratories.
- • Select and procure textbooks, software, and laboratory or field equipment.
- • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
- • Compile bibliographies and reading lists for specialized topics.
- • Provide professional consulting or advisory services to government or industry when appropriate.
- • Advise and support student organizations related to the discipline.
- • Participate in campus, outreach, and community engagement events.
- • Purchase, operate, and maintain instruments and equipment for research projects.
- • Review manuscripts for scientific journals and evaluate grant proposals or serve on review panels.
- • Communicate with the public and media about research, teaching, and current scientific issues.
