Description
Arrange, describe, and make accessible archival collections by appraising, processing, and preserving physical and born-digital records. Create standards-compliant finding aids and metadata, and implement efficient workflows that support research and discovery.
  • • Appraise and process incoming and backlog collections to archival standards and repository policies.
  • • Arrange records and develop collection- and series-level organization schemes.
  • • Create accession records and detailed finding aids following DACS; encode description in EAD.
  • • Enter and maintain collection metadata in collection management systems (e.g., ArchivesSpace).
  • • Rehouse, label, and stabilize materials; flag items needing conservation treatment.
  • • Implement minimal or extensible processing approaches to increase timely access.
  • • Review materials for privacy, copyright, and sensitive content; document and apply access restrictions.
  • • Process born-digital records: capture media, create disk images, run fixity, and normalize files.
  • • Prepare materials and metadata for digitization; coordinate file naming and quality control.
  • • Identify and integrate accruals; reconcile inventories and transfer documentation.
  • • Maintain processing plans, timelines, and metrics; report progress to supervisors.
  • • Train and oversee students or volunteers assisting with processing tasks.
  • • Research provenance and context to inform arrangement and description.
