Description
Assemble, fit, and join aircraft fuselage structures—frames, stringers, longerons, floor beams, skins, and bulkheads—using jigs, fixtures, and precision tools. Align and mate fuselage sections; install fasteners, sealants, and mounting provisions to meet blueprints, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • • Assemble prefabricated fuselage frames, bulkheads, stringers, longerons, and floor beam subassemblies.
  • • Position and align fuselage subassemblies in jigs or fixtures using precision measuring instruments and blueprint index points.
  • • Join fuselage sections and skins by drilling, reaming, countersinking, and installing rivets or mechanical fasteners.
  • • Lay out and mark reference points, splice lines, and cutouts for doors, windows, and systems penetrations on fuselage panels.
  • • Attach clips, brackets, doublers, and stiffeners to fuselage structure using bolts, screws, rivets, bonding, or spot welding.
  • • Fit, trim, shim, and contour frames and skins to achieve flush fit and required clearances.
  • • Apply and tool sealants for pressurized joints, wet bays, and lap seams per specifications.
  • • Inspect and verify alignment, contour, edge distances, hole quality, and fastener grip using gauges and test equipment.
  • • Set up or operate sheet metal equipment to cut, bend, roll, stretch-form, or bead fuselage components to specification.
  • • Pre-fit and install seat rails, floor grids, and system mounting provisions within fuselage bays.
  • • Manually position structural assemblies or signal crane operators to locate fuselage barrels or panels for joining.
  • • Fabricate or rework brackets, shims, fillers, or clips using shop machinery and hand tools.
  • • Adjust, repair, or replace nonconforming fuselage parts and document rework per quality procedures.
  • • Deburr, file, and surface-prep holes and edges prior to sealing and final assembly.
  • • Drill and finish pass-throughs; install bushings, grommets, and chafe protection for cables and tubing per drawings.
  • • Apply corrosion protection, primers, and protective coatings to fuselage parts as required.
  • • Read and interpret blueprints, loft data, mylars, and digital models to determine layouts and sequences of operations.
  • • Verify fuselage dimensions, station and waterline locations, and contour using laser trackers, theodolites, or other measuring instruments.
  • • Maintain tooling control; set, level, and shim jigs and fixtures to required tolerances.
  • • Clean parts and assemblies using approved aqueous or low-VOC products; capture and segregate waste for proper disposal.
  • • Mark part numbers, locations, and fastener callouts on structure using labels, stamps, or etching devices.
  • • Install temporary fasteners (such as clecos) and verify patterns prior to final fastening.
  • • Coordinate with systems and interiors teams to ensure clearances and interface provisions are met.
  • • Compile build records, torque logs, sealant cure records, and inspection sign-offs per quality requirements.
  • • Follow safety, FOD, and ESD prevention practices in fuselage assembly areas.
