Description
Install, fit, and secure aircraft de-icing and anti-icing systems and components, such as pneumatic boots, electro-thermal heaters, TKS fluid equipment, propeller and windshield de-ice, sensors, plumbing, wiring, pumps, and valves, on wings, tails, engine inlets, and related structures; verify performance and compliance to specifications.
- • Assemble de-icing subassemblies from prefabricated parts and kits.
- • Position and align boots, heaters, manifolds, and nozzles using jigs, fixtures, and measuring instruments per blueprints.
- • Lay out and mark reference points for leading-edge boots, heaters, fluid outlets, and sensor locations with templates.
- • Clean and prepare bonding surfaces; remove old boots, adhesive, and sealant as required.
- • Mix, apply, and cure primers, adhesives, and sealants to manufacturer specifications.
- • Bond, fit, and fasten pneumatic boots to wings, stabilizers, and inlets using clamps, screws, and specified adhesives.
- • Install electro-thermal mats and windshield/propeller de-ice elements; secure wiring and protective fairings.
- • Route and secure hoses, tubing, and wiring harnesses with brackets, clamps, grommets, and ties.
- • Cut, trim, flare, bead, and form tubing; assemble hose and tube fittings to specifications.
- • Install pumps, reservoirs, filters, distributors, valves, and regulators for TKS and pneumatic systems.
- • Mount controllers, relays, circuit protection, and junctions; crimp or solder terminals and connectors.
- • Connect and verify control cables or electrical leads to timers, pressure switches, and ice detectors.
- • Perform electrical continuity, insulation resistance, and amperage tests on heaters and circuits.
- • Pressure and vacuum test lines, manifolds, and boots; leak-check and proof-test fluid systems.
- • Prime, purge, and bleed de-ice fluid systems; verify flow rates and spray patterns.
- • Set and calibrate timers, thermostats, pressure regulators, and sensor thresholds to tolerance.
- • Inspect installations for fit, bond integrity, alignment, chafing, and compliance with standards.
- • Trim, file, and smooth boot and fairing edges for proper fit and clearance.
- • Adjust, repair, rework, or replace de-ice components to correct defects.
- • Mark and label lines, harnesses, and components; update configuration and maintenance records.
- • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and installation manuals to plan work sequence.
- • Assist with functional ground tests of de-icing cycles and annunciation; document results.
- • Capture and segregate waste adhesive, solvent, and glycol-based fluid for proper disposal or recycling.
- • Use aqueous or approved solvents to clean parts and reduce harmful emissions.
- • Set up and operate swaging, flaring, and crimping equipment; perform hose pressure proof tests.
- • Signal or coordinate lifting and positioning of leading-edge assemblies or panels for installation.
