Description
Operate and tend edge-gluing equipment to bond board edges or veneer strips into panels or components, setting up, monitoring, and adjusting adhesive application, pressure, and cycle conditions to meet specifications.
- • Read work orders to determine panel sizes, material types, glue specifications, and production targets.
- • Select, align, and position boards or strips for edge gluing to ensure tight joints and proper grain or pattern match.
- • Adjust machine settings for glue spread rate, conveyor speed, clamp spacing, pressure, temperature, and cure time.
- • Measure and mix adhesives per specifications and fill machine reservoirs.
- • Load lumber or veneer into feeders and position against fences, stops, and guides.
- • Start machines and control feeds to apply adhesive and engage clamps or presses.
- • Monitor operations to detect malfunctions, uneven glue coverage, or misalignment, and correct issues promptly.
- • Observe gauges, meters, and control panels for temperatures, pressures, and line speeds.
- • Perform test runs and make adjustments to achieve required bond strength and dimensional accuracy.
- • Examine and measure finished panels for width, length, thickness, squareness, and glue-line quality.
- • Clear jams, remove excess glue squeeze-out, and readjust components to resume normal operation.
- • Remove and stack glued panels for curing or further processing and restock incoming materials.
- • Clean and maintain glue spreaders, rollers, clamps, and presses using approved cleaners and tools.
- • Maintain production and quality records, including quantities, dimensions, cure times, and glue batch numbers.
- • Transport lumber, supplies, and finished panels between storage and work areas using forklifts or carts.
- • Replace worn applicator parts and clamp pads and perform basic preventive maintenance.
