Collect delinquent taxes from individuals and businesses, arrange payment solutions, and enforce legal remedies when necessary while ensuring compliance with tax laws and maintaining accurate case records and taxpayer assistance.
  • • Collect delinquent taxes from individuals and businesses in accordance with laws and regulations.
  • • Calculate outstanding balances, penalties, and interest to determine amounts due.
  • • Contact taxpayers by mail, phone, or electronic notices to address delinquencies and request documentation.
  • • Send billing and delinquency notices and demand letters.
  • • Set up and monitor installment agreements and other payment plans.
  • • Impose payment deadlines and track compliance.
  • • Determine and recommend collection actions such as liens, levies, wage garnishments, or property seizures, following due process.
  • • Prepare and process legal documents, including notices of assessment, liens, levies, subpoenas, and garnishments.
  • • Coordinate service of legal documents with courts or law enforcement as required.
  • • Investigate ability to pay by reviewing financial statements, bank records, public filings, and third-party information.
  • • Locate taxpayer assets and income sources to secure collection.
  • • Negotiate settlements or offers in compromise within policy guidelines.
  • • Secure taxpayer agreements and obtain required forms and signatures.
  • • Maintain detailed case records, contacts, and actions in agency systems.
  • • Resolve account discrepancies and adjust accounts when warranted.
  • • Provide information to taxpayers about obligations, rights, and collection options; answer questions.
  • • Refer contested matters to appeals or legal counsel and participate in hearings when needed.
  • • Maintain current knowledge of tax laws, collection procedures, and privacy and due-process requirements.
  • • Process and record payments, offsets, and reversals per policy.
  • • Collaborate with audit and legal units to clarify assessments and support enforcement actions.
