Set the artistic vision and lead programming for a performing arts organization, curating seasons and creative teams, overseeing casting approvals and development processes, and ensuring high-quality, mission-aligned productions.
- • Hire, mentor, and supervise artistic, casting, literary, and dramaturgy staff and interns.
- • Oversee workshops, readings, labs, and development processes, setting evaluation criteria and next steps.
- • Direct select productions and support education, outreach, and community engagement initiatives.
- • Define and communicate the organization's artistic vision, values, and standards.
- • Curate the season lineup, selecting scripts, projects, and collaborators aligned with mission and audience.
- • Evaluate scripts and scores and confer with producers or managing leadership to scope production needs and casting breakdowns.
- • Approve principal casting and key creative hires or provide shortlists to directors and producers.
- • Attend key auditions and interviews to assess artists and expand the talent pool.

- • Set audition guidelines and materials with casting and communicate artistic requirements to candidates.
- • Serve as liaison among directors, designers, performers, agents, and producers to align artistic goals and schedules.
- • Scout talent and trends by attending productions, showcases, festivals, and training programs.
- • Collaborate with management to negotiate or approve artistic contracts and ensure union and legal compliance.
- • Coordinate with casting to communicate audition and engagement opportunities and manage calendars.
