Description
Study human populations and population processes by analyzing fertility, mortality, migration, age structure, and household composition, as well as related social, economic, and health factors. May model population change over time, trace the movements and growth of populations, and assess how demographic trends influence communities, institutions, markets, and policy.
  • • Prepare publications and reports on demographic analyses and projections.
  • • Analyze and interpret population data on fertility, mortality, migration, and growth.
  • • Plan and conduct research to develop and test population models and trends related to aging, urbanization, labor markets, and inequality.
  • • Collect population data from censuses, surveys, vital records, and administrative sources.
  • • Develop, implement, and evaluate demographic data collection instruments and sampling designs.

  • • Lead and review the work of analysts and statisticians who compile and validate demographic data.

  • • Design and assess interventions or scenarios using cohort-component models, microsimulation, or other demographic techniques.
  • • Present demographic research at professional meetings and stakeholder briefings.
  • • Communicate demographic concepts and findings to the public and media.
  • • Write grants and proposals to fund demographic research and data initiatives.
