Description
Research, plan, and implement wildlife conservation and habitat management to sustain native species, restore ecosystems, and balance biodiversity with human land uses.
  • • Survey wildlife populations and habitat conditions for environmental assessments, impact statements, and monitoring programs.
  • • Maintain habitat quality for wildlife by improving soil, vegetation, and water resources.
  • • Mediate stakeholder agreements and resolve human–wildlife conflicts in land use and management.
  • • Manage habitats using prescribed fire, invasive species control, and revegetation to support biodiversity.
  • • Research conservation practices and address threats to sustain wildlife populations and ecosystem functions.
  • • Advise landowners and communities on water management, habitat enhancement, and vegetation control to benefit wildlife.
  • • Plan and direct habitat improvements, including wildlife-friendly fencing, nest structures, water sources, erosion control, and crossings.
  • • Develop site-specific conservation plans aligned with landowner and community goals for wildlife and recreation.
  • • Establish technical standards and protocols to manage, protect, and restore wildlife habitats.
  • • Evaluate land-use practices, such as grazing, recreation, and forestry, to minimize impacts and improve outcomes for wildlife.
  • • Plan and implement restoration and revegetation of degraded or disturbed habitats.
  • • Assess native plant communities and select species mixes that support target wildlife and pollinators.
  • • Develop methods to protect habitats from wildfire, pests, disease, and invasive species while maintaining natural processes.
  • • Develop and test tools and techniques for wildlife monitoring, habitat restoration, and adaptive management.
  • • Oversee compliance with wildlife protection regulations and guide land users to adopt habitat-conserving practices.
  • • Coordinate with federal, state, tribal, and nonprofit partners to manage and protect wildlife and habitats.
