Description
Safely transport patients, specimens, and medical equipment between hospital units using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds. Verify patient identity, ensure comfort and safety, sanitize transport equipment, and support clinical teams with timely, accurate deliveries.
  • • Receive and prioritize transport requests via phone, pager, or dispatch system.
  • • Verify patient identity and required documentation before transport.
  • • Explain the transport process and ensure comfort, privacy, and dignity.
  • • Transport patients to diagnostic, treatment, surgical, admission, discharge, or inpatient areas using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds.
  • • Assist with lifting, turning, and transferring patients to and from beds, imaging tables, and stretchers using proper techniques and devices.
  • • Secure patients with seat belts or side rails and apply fall-prevention measures.
  • • Monitor and manage IV poles, oxygen, and drains during transport per policy.
  • • Position or hold patients for imaging or surgical preparation as directed.
  • • Respond to emergency and stat transport requests and codes.
  • • Observe and promptly report changes in patient condition.
  • • Transport specimens, blood products, medications, and paperwork with correct labeling, documentation, and chain of custody.
  • • Deliver and retrieve portable medical equipment and supplies between departments.
  • • Clean and disinfect wheelchairs, stretchers, and transport equipment; tag items needing repair.
  • • Collect and transport infectious or hazardous waste in closed containers per policy.
  • • Stock transport areas and carts with linens and supplies.
  • • Change soiled linens on stretchers or transport equipment as needed.
  • • Transport decedents to the morgue per protocol.
  • • Maintain accurate electronic transport logs and obtain required signatures.
  • • Follow isolation precautions and use appropriate PPE.
  • • Provide wayfinding and escort assistance to patients and visitors.
