Description
Assist ophthalmologists with clinical diagnostics and patient care. Perform testing, administer eye medications per protocol, document histories, and instruct patients in the care and use of corrective lenses; may assist with procedures.
  • • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
  • • Assess refractive error using retinoscopy.
  • • Assist patients with insertion and removal of contact lenses.
  • • Conduct post-operative follow-up calls.
  • • Clean and sterilize ophthalmic and surgical instruments.
  • • Perform ocular motility testing.
  • • Perform visual field testing.
  • • Instruct patients in contact lens care and use.
  • • Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
  • • Measure lens power with a lensometer.
  • • Measure and document visual acuity (near, distance, pinhole).
  • • Operate diagnostic equipment (autorefractor, phoropter, OCT, retinoscope).
  • • Obtain biometric and ocular measurements (e.g., axial length).
  • • Obtain and document ocular and medical histories.
  • • Adjust or perform minor repairs to eyeglasses.
  • • Assist patients with eyewear selection when applicable.
  • • Assist ophthalmologists during ophthalmic procedures or minor surgery.
  • • Conduct stereopsis testing.
  • • Measure intraocular pressure (tonometry or tonography).
  • • Measure corneal curvature with keratometry.
