Description
Perform trumpet in concerts, broadcasts, and recordings as a soloist or ensemble member, interpreting repertoire, sight-reading, and improvising as needed.
- • Perform trumpet solos and section parts for live concerts, recitals, ceremonies, and other events.
- • Play in orchestras, wind ensembles, big bands, jazz combos, pit orchestras, and studio sessions.
- • Sight-read transposed trumpet parts during rehearsals and recordings.
- • Perform from memory or by following scores and lead sheets.
- • Interpret and shape phrasing, articulation, dynamics, and tone to suit style and audience.
- • Specialize in classical, jazz, commercial, Latin, marching, or other trumpet repertoire.
- • Take cues from conductors, bandleaders, and section leaders.
- • Practice embouchure, breathing, range, finger technique, and endurance daily.
- • Work with trumpet teachers or coaches to refine technique and audition materials.
- • Listen to reference recordings to learn repertoire and improve style and intonation.
- • Warm up and tune; select appropriate mutes and horn types for each piece.
- • Switch among B-flat, C, E-flat/D, piccolo trumpet, and flugelhorn as required.

- • Use microphones and live sound techniques appropriate for trumpet.

- • Provide trumpet parts for ballets, operas, musical theatre, and cabarets.
- • Audition for orchestras, bands, military ensembles, and touring productions.
- • Learn and prepare new trumpet repertoire for performance or recording.
- • Record trumpet tracks in studios or remote/home setups.
- • Promote performances and releases through social media, press, and outreach.
- • Research historical styles, composers, and performance practice relevant to pieces.
- • Transpose parts or improvise transpositions at sight when needed.
