Description
Play piano in solo and collaborative settings. Perform on stage, for broadcast, and for sound or video recording.
  • • Perform solo recitals, chamber music, and accompaniment at concerts, educational events, and social functions.
  • • Interpret scores using knowledge of harmony, melody, rhythm, articulation, voicing, and pedaling to engage audiences.
  • • Specialize in classical, jazz, pop, musical theater, gospel, or other piano styles.
  • • Perform as a soloist or collaborative pianist with ensembles, choirs, and orchestras.
  • • Follow conductors, music directors, or section leaders for cues and tempo changes.
  • • Memorize repertoire and routines, or perform from printed scores, lead sheets, or client instructions.

  • • Serve as rehearsal pianist or music director and lead small ensembles when required.

  • • Improvise solos, accompaniments, and transitions during performances.
  • • Collaborate with managers, agents, contractors, and presenters to secure work and negotiate terms.

  • • Coordinate piano tuning and maintenance with technicians; manage digital keyboards and MIDI setups as needed.
