Lead and conduct concert, marching, and jazz bands; plan rehearsals and performances; select and arrange repertoire; develop ensemble musicianship and discipline; and manage program logistics, budgets, and equipment.
  • • Use conducting gestures to shape tempo, phrasing, tone, balance, and dynamics.
  • • Direct band rehearsals and performances to achieve precise rhythm, blend, and style.
  • • Study full and condensed scores to develop musical interpretations and rehearsal plans.
  • • Select repertoire suited to ensemble size, instrumentation, and skill levels.
  • • Arrange or adapt music for concert, marching, and jazz band instrumentation.
  • • Transpose parts to accommodate specific instruments and player ranges.

  • • Prepare budgets; purchase music, licenses, supplies, and equipment.
  • • Organize travel, contests, festivals, and game-day logistics.
  • • Communicate with administrators, parents, boosters, and event organizers.
  • • Create programs, schedules, and promotional materials for concerts and events.
  • • Ensure compliance with copyright, safety policies, and school or venue rules.
  • • Coach soloists and section leaders; run leadership training.
  • • Assign and review work by assistants, arrangers, drill writers, and librarians.
  • • Adapt music styles and tempos to fit shows, ceremonies, or athletic events.
  • • Develop annual goals, assessments, and audition materials.
  • • Collaborate with accompanists and guest clinicians to enhance instruction.
  • • Produce live or studio recordings for archives, assessment, or distribution.
  • • Stay current with band pedagogy, repertoire, and music technology.
