Adapt and orchestrate existing compositions for specific ensembles, voices, or media, shaping harmony, rhythm, texture, and form to achieve artistic and practical goals. Prepare clear scores and parts, and collaborate with composers, music directors, and producers to support rehearsals, performances, and recordings.
  • • Analyze compositions and recordings to identify key elements for arrangement.
  • • Determine instrumentation, voicings, harmonic structures, rhythms, and textures to realize the desired style and effect.
  • • Orchestrate for orchestra, band, choir, rhythm section, and studio ensembles.
  • • Transcribe existing music and arrangement ideas into clear notation using scoring software or by hand.
  • • Apply music theory and ear training to craft harmonies, counterpoint, reharmonizations, and modulations.
  • • Adapt keys, ranges, and forms to suit soloists, ensembles, and production needs.

  • • Ensure stylistic authenticity by researching genre conventions and historical practices.
  • • Prepare tempo maps, click tracks, and rehearsal marks for recording or stage productions.
  • • Coordinate with copyists, librarians, contractors, and engineers to meet delivery deadlines.
  • • Lead and review work of orchestrators, assistants, and copyists to maintain consistency and quality.
  • • Arrange and orchestrate for media, including film, television, advertising, theater, and games.
  • • Study scripts, storyboards, or picture to align arrangements with narrative and timing.
  • • Manage clearances or licensing needs for derivative arrangements when required by rights holders.
  • • Recommend instrumentation, doublings, and chair assignments to match the arrangement and available personnel.
