Description
Plan, design, and oversee safe, economical, and environmentally responsible extraction of minerals from surface and underground mines. Conduct or coordinate subsurface and feasibility studies, specify mining methods, equipment, and support systems, and manage mine development, operations, and reclamation in compliance with regulations.
  • • Inspect mine sites for structural integrity, equipment condition, and safe working practices.
  • • Plan surface and underground mining operations, specifying methods, labor, sequencing, and equipment for safe, economical, and environmentally sound extraction.
  • • Analyze geologic maps, drill data, and resource models to assess the location, size, accessibility, grade, and profitability of mineral and ore deposits.
  • • Prepare mine development and operating schedules, budgets, and cost estimates.
  • • Monitor production and recovery metrics to evaluate operational performance and optimize output.
  • • Design and oversee development of mines, facilities, ground support, and related systems.
  • • Select and optimize extraction and production methods based on deposit characteristics, safety, cost, and regulatory requirements.
  • • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and presentations for engineering, operations, and management.
  • • Coordinate mine safety compliance and risk controls with safety personnel, including ground control and ventilation planning.
  • • Design and validate ventilation, dust control, and gas monitoring systems; recommend mitigation measures.
  • • Use and configure mine design, planning, modeling, mapping, and monitoring software.
  • • Specify materials-handling systems and equipment to move ore, waste, and products efficiently.
  • • Develop and implement plans for land reclamation, water management, and pollution control.
  • • Lay out, direct, and supervise construction of shafts, declines, portals, and tunnels.
  • • Evaluate operational data to improve mining methods, equipment utilization, and processes.
  • • Conduct or oversee trials and pilot tests to confirm designs and research findings.
  • • Collaborate to design mining and mineral processing equipment and support machinery.
  • • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate engineers, technologists, surveyors, and other mine personnel.
