Description
Lead mine safety engineering to prevent incidents and ensure compliance. Assess hazards and ground conditions; specify ground support, ventilation, and protective systems; inspect sites; monitor air and geotechnical conditions; and direct safety programs, training, audits, and emergency preparedness to support safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations.
  • • Inspect mining areas for unsafe ground, structures, equipment, and working conditions.
  • • Develop, implement, and update mine safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • • Conduct risk assessments and job safety analyses for underground and surface operations.
  • • Specify and oversee ground control and support systems to mitigate geotechnical hazards.
  • • Design, verify, and monitor ventilation systems; test air for gases, dust, and heat.
  • • Recommend materials-handling methods that minimize exposure and ergonomic risk.
  • • Set and enforce contractor safety requirements and oversight.
  • • Support dust, noise, water, and air controls that protect worker health and the environment.
  • • Prepare technical safety reports, procedures, and briefings for management and regulators.
  • • Investigate incidents and near misses and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • • Plan and deliver safety training, drills, and PPE competency for mine personnel.
  • • Audit compliance with MSHA and other regulations; maintain records and regulatory reports.
  • • Develop emergency response plans and manage rescue equipment and readiness.
  • • Review mine plans, maps, and permits for safety impacts and approval.
  • • Monitor operations to ensure adherence to safe work procedures and controls.
  • • Select and implement safety technologies, such as gas, ground, and communications monitoring.
  • • Analyze safety metrics to identify trends and lead continuous improvement.
  • • Collaborate with engineering, geology, and operations to integrate safety into designs and schedules.
