Description
Support diagnostic testing by receiving, verifying, and accessioning patient specimens; perform basic processing, labeling, and routing while maintaining specimen integrity, documentation, and regulatory compliance under supervision.
- • Receive and inspect specimens for correct labeling, volume, container, and integrity per acceptance criteria.
- • Match specimens with requisitions; verify patient identifiers and test orders; resolve discrepancies.
- • Accession orders in the LIS; enter demographics and codes; generate and apply barcodes.
- • Prioritize STAT, timed, and routine specimens; route to appropriate lab sections or reference labs.
- • Perform basic processing such as centrifugation, aliquoting, and preservation; maintain required temperatures.
- • Prepare and ship specimens; package with proper materials and temperature control; create manifests and track.
- • Maintain chain of custody for toxicology and other regulated samples; document seals and transfers.
- • Operate, clean, and maintain accessioning equipment, barcode printers, scanners, and centrifuges.
- • Communicate with phlebotomy, couriers, and clients to obtain missing data or arrange recollection.
- • Document specimen problems, add-on tests, and corrective actions; escalate unresolved issues.
- • Ensure accurate data entry and timely release of orders; print and distribute labels and paperwork.
- • Follow HIPAA, biosafety, and infection control procedures; use PPE and handle biohazards safely.
- • Monitor and restock accessioning and shipping supplies.
- • Participate in quality control and continuous improvement activities.
