Description
Support clinical laboratory operations by receiving, labeling, and processing specimens; perform basic testing and data entry under supervision; and maintain equipment, supplies, and documentation to ensure accurate, timely patient testing.
- • Receive, verify, and accession specimens; label and enter orders into the laboratory information system.
- • Prepare specimens for analysis by centrifuging, aliquoting, and loading analyzers under supervision.
- • Assist with routine chemical analyses by operating automated instruments and recording results as directed.
- • Record and review test data for completeness; flag abnormal or critical values for technologist review.
- • Generate basic reports, logs, charts, and documentation in the LIS or spreadsheets.
- • Collect blood and other specimens using aseptic technique, if trained and authorized.
- • Prepare and stain slides and media; set up basic cultures per protocol.
- • Prepare standard reagents and solutions following established formulas and safety procedures.
- • Set up, clean, and perform routine maintenance and calibration checks on laboratory equipment.
- • Maintain specimen storage and chain of custody; package and ship specimens to reference laboratories.
- • Monitor inventory; stock supplies and verify lot numbers and expiration dates.
- • Follow CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and infection-control policies; handle and dispose of biohazardous waste properly.
- • Assist technologists and supervisors with quality control and proficiency testing documentation.
- • Help orient or train new lab assistants on specimen handling, workflows, and safety practices.
