Description
Operate wheel or track log loaders equipped with grapples, forks, or booms to load and unload trucks, stack and sort logs, and manage log yards or landings. Perform pre-shift inspections, basic maintenance, and safe material handling to support harvesting or mill operations.
  • • Perform pre-shift inspections and basic maintenance on loaders, grapples, and attachments.
  • • Operate log loaders with grapples, forks, or booms to load, unload, and stack logs.
  • • Move and stage logs within landings and yards; feed sorters, chippers, or processors.
  • • Position and balance loads on trucks or railcars; coordinate with drivers via radio and hand signals.
  • • Sort and grade logs by species, size, and quality per company and industry standards.
  • • Use hydraulic controls to lift, swing, and place logs safely around personnel and equipment.
  • • Maintain clear, stable log decks, work pads, and travel paths; remove debris as needed.
  • • Complete load tickets, shift reports, and equipment logs.
  • • Calculate and record wood volumes (board feet, tons, cords) using scales or conversion tables.
