Crime Analyst (Criminal Analyst)

Intelligence Analysts
Description
Collect, analyze, and synthesize crime data from police records, law enforcement databases, GIS, and open sources to identify patterns, develop investigative leads, and inform resource deployment and crime prevention strategies.
  • • Forecast crime hot spots, series, and gang or organized crime activity using statistical and geospatial analysis.
  • • Analyze trends in narcotics, fraud, money laundering, gangs, auto theft, burglary, and other public safety threats.
  • • Build, use, and maintain RMS/CAD, GIS mapping, and analytic software and dashboards.
  • • Develop crime series and offender profiles to help link cases and suspects.
  • • Analyze call detail records, social media, ALPR, and network data to map associations and activity.
  • • Collect and evaluate information from police reports, tips, public records, and open-source intelligence.
  • • Correlate data from multiple law enforcement databases to produce actionable insights.
  • • Link suspects, incidents, and locations to reveal relationships and patterns.
  • • Produce crime maps, bulletins, timelines, and dashboards to support operations and investigations.
  • • Prepare clear written reports and briefings summarizing methods, findings, and recommendations.
  • • Recommend tactical and strategic deployment plans to reduce crime and victimization.
  • • Track financial transactions and assets to support fraud and money laundering investigations.
  • • Validate intelligence through cross-checks, field feedback, and additional data sources.
  • • Coordinate information sharing with detectives, prosecutors, task forces, and neighboring agencies.
  • • Support patrol, special operations, and investigative planning with real-time and near-real-time analysis.
  • • Generate investigative leads and interview questions based on pattern and link analysis.
  • • Ensure data quality, correct coding, and NIBRS/UCR compliance in crime data.
  • • Identify emerging patterns, repeat locations, prolific offenders, and modus operandi.
  • • Deliver presentations to command staff and community stakeholders on crime trends and outcomes.
  • • Assess the impact of operations and interventions and update analysis accordingly.
  • • Identify intelligence gaps and define collection requirements.
