Description
Safely transport hazardous materials and waste between sites using commercial trucks and tankers. Load, secure, placard, and document shipments; perform vehicle and equipment inspections; and follow DOT, EPA, and OSHA safety procedures. Respond to spills or emergencies and assist with packaging or transfers as needed. Requires a CDL with hazardous materials endorsement and specialized hazmat training.
- • Comply with DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations for hazardous materials transport and disposal.
- • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, tankers, pumps, hoses, and safety gear.
- • Verify shipping papers, manifests, and permits before loading or transport.
- • Placard and label vehicles and containers per 49 CFR requirements.
- • Load or unload drums, totes, cylinders, or bulk liquids using forklifts, pallet jacks, pumps, or hoses.
- • Secure cargo with straps, chocks, seals, and secondary containment.
- • Operate vacuum, roll-off, or tanker trucks to collect and transport hazardous waste.
- • Drive planned routes between generators, transfer stations, and disposal facilities.
- • Monitor tank pressures, temperatures, and levels during loading, transit, and unloading.
- • Maintain electronic logs and records, including ELD, mileage, and waste tracking.
- • Complete hazardous waste manifests, bills of lading, and chain-of-custody records.
- • Communicate with dispatch, customers, and facility personnel to coordinate pickups and deliveries.
- • Deploy spill kits and implement spill prevention and control measures.
- • Respond to spills or accidents with initial containment and notifications per emergency plans.
- • Decontaminate equipment, tools, and vehicle surfaces after loading or spill events.
- • Build or set up temporary secondary containment during transfer operations.
- • Segregate and verify compatibility of materials prior to loading.
- • Identify hazardous materials using markings, labels, SDS, and monitoring devices.
- • Assist crews with packaging, overpacking, or bulking waste for transport.
- • Weigh loads, obtain scale tickets, and track container counts and types.
- • Maintain vehicle cleanliness, perform minor maintenance, and report defects.
