Description
Identify, contain, remove, and package hazardous building materials, such as asbestos, lead-based paint, mold, or contaminated soil, and prepare them for compliant transport or disposal. Specialized abatement training, medical clearance, and respirator certification are typically required; confined space permits may be needed. May operate HEPA vacuums, negative air machines, lifts, or trucks.
- • Follow OSHA, EPA, and state abatement regulations and site-specific safety plans.
- • Wear and maintain PPE, including respirators, and complete fit checks.
- • Set up regulated areas, warning signs, and decontamination units.
- • Build containments and establish negative-pressure enclosures with HEPA filtration.
- • Seal, mask, and protect adjacent surfaces and building systems.
- • Identify and mark materials to be abated using inspections or monitoring devices.
- • Use wet methods to minimize dust and remove asbestos, lead paint, or mold with hand and power tools.
- • Apply glovebag techniques on piping and small components.

- • Monitor and record air, clearance, or exposure readings as directed and maintain logs.
- • Assist with sampling and bulk material handling under supervisor direction.
- • Operate light demolition tools and remove contaminated building components.
- • Drive company vehicles to and from job sites and disposal facilities as authorized.
- • Respond to spills or emergency abatement needs to limit contamination spread.
- • Sort and segregate hazardous and nonhazardous debris for proper disposal or recycling.
- • Maintain equipment, change filters, and track inventories of materials and waste.
- • Prepare daily reports, container counts, and regulatory documentation.
