Description
Lead and coordinate forest management operations and staff on public and private lands to meet economic, recreation, and conservation goals. Oversee inventories, planning, contracting, compliance, and safety; guide habitat, water, and soil protection; and direct planting, monitoring, and harvesting schedules.
  • • Monitor contract compliance and outcomes to ensure regulatory adherence.
  • • Develop and oversee short- and long-term forest management plans.
  • • Supervise and mentor forestry crews and technicians.
  • • Approve and oversee site preparation methods, including controlled burns, mechanical clearing, and herbicides.
  • • Plan, schedule, and oversee reforestation, nursery operations, thinning, and seedling monitoring.
  • • Negotiate and administer harvesting, management, and land-lease contracts.
  • • Direct wildfire prevention, preparedness, and suppression operations with cooperating agencies.
  • • Set harvesting prescriptions and operating standards to minimize waste and environmental impacts.
  • • Review growth and yield analyses to guide species selection and silvicultural treatments.
  • • Ensure post-harvest areas are reclaimed to approved end uses.
  • • Oversee projects that conserve wildlife habitat and protect soil and water quality.
  • • Direct forest inventories and surveys and approve reports and recommendations.
  • • Conduct and document inspections of forests and nurseries.
  • • Review and validate mapping and inventory data for soils, vegetation, and timber value.
  • • Lead public outreach and education on forest stewardship.
  • • Manage timber procurement and landowner relationships.
  • • Select, brief, and manage contractors for logging, road layout, and related services.
  • • Plan cutting programs and oversee timber sales to meet production goals.
  • • Coordinate wildlife monitoring and mitigate operational impacts on habitats.
  • • Oversee construction and maintenance of recreation facilities, towers, trails, roads, and bridges to standard.
  • • Coordinate permissions and access with forest owners for inventory and operations.
  • • Provide technical guidance to landowners, agencies, and company stakeholders.
  • • Guide species selection and site prescriptions based on conditions, resilience, and pest risk.
  • • Evaluate and implement improved utilization of wood and residues.
  • • Enforce safety protocols, provide crew training, and manage budgets, schedules, and equipment.
