Plant Nursery Workers propagate, grow, and prepare ornamental and landscape plants in greenhouse and outdoor nursery environments. They plant, pot, label, water, fertilize, prune, and monitor plant health using hand tools and basic equipment. Duties include mixing media, spacing and moving stock, scouting and treating pests and diseases, maintaining irrigation and climate controls, and cleaning, grading, and packing orders for shipment or sale. May assemble trellises, repair benches and irrigation lines, and assist with inventory and customer service.
  • • Repair benches, shade structures, and nursery infrastructure.
  • • Pot, transplant, and label seedlings, cuttings, trees, and shrubs.
  • • Mix and fill growing media into pots, flats, and beds.
  • • Plant, water, fertilize, weed, and prune nursery stock using hand tools.
  • • Set up, operate, and adjust irrigation systems; regulate greenhouse climate.
  • • Scout for pests, diseases, and weeds; select and apply treatments per instructions.
  • • Maintain and repair irrigation and climate-control components.
  • • Clean and sanitize benches, tools, pots, and work areas; maintain grounds.
  • • Space, stake, trellis, and tie plants to promote proper growth.
  • • Move and stage containerized plants using carts, dollies, or tractors.
  • • Inspect plants and labeling for quality and accuracy.
  • • Grade, sort, and pack orders; wrap roots and bundle plants for shipment.
  • • Load products onto trucks and deliver to customers or retail sites.
  • • Record crop progress, inputs, yields, and inventory.
  • • Maintain inventory and reorder supplies and materials as needed.
  • • Inform supervisors of crop issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • • Service and maintain small equipment and tools.
  • • Direct and monitor seasonal or casual workers during peak periods.
  • • Provide customers with product selection and plant care advice.
  • • Participate in post-harvest treatments and storage of plant material.
