Description
Plan, assess, and guide land use and development to protect environmental resources and public health. Apply planning, environmental science, and policy to evaluate impacts, prepare environmental documents, coordinate permitting, recommend mitigation, and support sustainable, compliant project design and implementation.
  • • Conduct environmental reviews and site assessments for proposed plans and projects.
  • • Prepare and manage NEPA or state-equivalent environmental documents and technical appendices.
  • • Coordinate scoping, interagency consultation, and public involvement for environmental review.
  • • Evaluate regulatory consistency, land-use compatibility, and zoning compliance.
  • • Develop and compare project alternatives to avoid, minimize, and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • • Analyze environmental and planning data, including GIS, to assess project impacts.
  • • Define data needs and study methods for environmental impact analyses and planning studies.
  • • Prepare maps, graphics, and summaries conveying findings and recommendations.
  • • Draft mitigation measures, monitoring plans, and conditions of approval.
  • • Track mitigation commitments and construction compliance during implementation.
  • • Review and coordinate environmental permits and approvals with agencies.
  • • Assess cumulative, indirect, and growth-inducing impacts of plans and projects.
  • • Integrate climate resilience, adaptation, and sustainability goals into plans.
  • • Facilitate stakeholder meetings, workshops, and hearings; respond to public and agency comments.
  • • Provide technical guidance and coordination to interdisciplinary project teams and clients.
  • • Develop resource management or conservation strategies within planning documents.
  • • Conduct environmental due diligence screenings to inform land acquisition or redevelopment.
  • • Monitor development activities for environmental compliance with approved plans.
  • • Design research and analytical models to support planning and impact evaluation.
  • • Support grant applications and funding programs with environmental and planning analyses.
  • • Supervise or mentor junior planners or technicians and perform quality reviews.
  • • Maintain and update environmental planning policies, standards, procedures, and templates.
