Teach physical education, fitness, and health-related skills to elementary students, promoting motor development, teamwork, safety, and lifelong healthy habits.
  • • Establish and enforce safety and behavior rules for gyms, fields, playgrounds, and locker areas.
  • • Observe and assess students’ motor skills, effort, fitness levels, sportsmanship, and physical well-being.
  • • Set up, inspect, and break down equipment and activity stations for PE classes.
  • • Differentiate activities and modify rules or equipment to accommodate varying abilities and interests.
  • • Plan and lead a balanced program of fitness, fundamental movement, games, and skill practice.
  • • Teach skills through demonstrations, guided practice, small-group stations, and individual instruction.
  • • Set and communicate clear learning and fitness objectives for each unit and lesson.

  • • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate movement with academic learning and schedules.
  • • Consult with nurses, counselors, and special educators on health plans and adapted PE needs.
  • • Use technology such as heart-rate monitors, pedometers, timers, and instructional media to enhance lessons.
  • • Prepare lesson plans, safety checklists, and written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • • Collaborate with administrators to develop, evaluate, and improve PE and school wellness programs.
  • • Prepare required reports, including fitness summaries, progress reports, and program activity logs.
  • • Teach and monitor proper use, care, and storage of equipment to prevent injuries and damage.
  • • Organize and lead activities that promote physical, social, and emotional development, including cooperative games and movement challenges.
  • • Attend PE professional development, certifications, and conferences to maintain and improve competence.
  • • Plan and supervise field days, wellness events, guest coaches, and outdoor or community-based activities.
  • • Organize, label, and maintain PE spaces; post rules, rotations, and fitness goals.
  • • Attend staff meetings and serve on health, safety, or wellness committees as required.
  • • Administer standardized fitness assessments and interpret results to identify strengths and needs.
  • • Supervise, schedule, and direct paraprofessionals, aides, and volunteers during PE.
  • • Engage parent volunteers and student leaders to assist with stations, intramurals, and events.
  • • Perform school duties such as hallway or cafeteria monitoring, recess supervision, and bus duty.
  • • Select, order, store, issue, and inventory PE equipment, first-aid supplies, and materials.
  • • Provide adapted PE supports, assistive devices, and safe access to facilities for students with disabilities.
  • • Sponsor or coach extracurricular activities such as intramurals, fitness clubs, or sports clinics.
