Teach reading, writing, speaking, listening, and literature to elementary students, building literacy and communication skills.
  • • Establish and enforce rules for respectful discussion, collaboration, and independent literacy work.

  • • Meet with specialists (e.g., reading, ESL, special education) to support individual literacy plans.
  • • Use digital tools, audiobooks, and multimedia to enhance literacy learning.
  • • Prepare lesson plans and show evidence of planning upon request.
  • • Work with colleagues to develop, evaluate, and refine elementary ELA programs.
  • • Prepare progress reports and documentation of ELA activities and outcomes.
  • • Teach and monitor the safe use of classroom technology and materials.
  • • Lead activities that build language, creativity, and social skills, such as storytelling and drama.
  • • Attend literacy-focused PD, conferences, and workshops to improve practice.
  • • Plan and supervise author studies, book clubs, writing celebrations, and literacy field trips.
  • • Organize the classroom library, label materials, and display student writing and projects.
  • • Attend staff meetings and serve on literacy or curriculum committees.
  • • Administer and interpret reading inventories and writing rubrics to identify needs.
  • • Supervise and guide paraprofessionals or volunteers during literacy instruction.
  • • Engage parent volunteers in read-alouds, publishing parties, and library maintenance.
  • • Perform school duties such as hallway and cafeteria monitoring and dismissal.
  • • Select, order, and inventory books, manipulatives, and ELA supplies.
  • • Provide accommodations, assistive technology, and access supports for students with disabilities.
  • • Sponsor ELA-related extracurriculars, such as journalism club, poetry readings, or spelling bees.
