Description
Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the vascular system using duplex Doppler to assess blood flow and vessel structure, and provide technical findings to physicians.
- • Select and acquire diagnostic vascular images and Doppler waveforms, distinguishing normal from disease.
- • Monitor image and spectral quality during scans, optimizing gain, scale, angle, and color settings.
- • Observe and care for patients during exams to ensure safety and comfort.
- • Provide sonograms and a concise technical summary with measurements and impressions for physician review.
- • Operate duplex ultrasound to evaluate blood flow, vessel patency, stenosis, occlusion, aneurysm, or thrombosis.
- • Choose transducers, adjust settings, and position patients to obtain optimal insonation angles and windows.
- • Expand or modify the exam based on real-time findings and clinical indications.
- • Post-process, annotate, and label images, cine loops, and spectral tracings; complete documentation in PACS/RIS.
- • Obtain and document relevant vascular history, symptoms, prior tests, surgeries, or risk factors.
- • Prepare patients by explaining procedures, positioning, and applying gel; perform compression maneuvers as needed.
- • Record and archive images and measurements with standardized vessel and segment labels.
- • Collaborate with physicians and staff; assist during ultrasound-guided vascular procedures when required.
- • Maintain quality assurance and accreditation records, including velocity criteria and correlation studies.
- • Follow legal and ethical standards, obtain consents when appropriate, and report safety concerns or suspected abuse.
- • Train and mentor students or new vascular sonographers.
- • Manage inventory and prepare supplies for vascular examinations and procedures.
- • Clean, calibrate, and maintain ultrasound equipment; request service or perform minor repairs as needed.
- • Perform clerical tasks such as scheduling, verifying orders, and archiving studies.
- • Provide basic patient care, including vital signs monitoring and emergency response, such as CPR, when necessary.
- • Perform noninvasive vascular tests, such as ABI, toe pressures, segmental pressures, PVRs, and TBI.
