Description
Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations to produce images of internal organs, tissues, and blood flow for physician interpretation.
- • Educate and precept students or new sonographers.
- • Follow infection control and safety protocols, including sterile technique when required.
- • Select and capture diagnostic ultrasound images, distinguishing normal from pathological findings.
- • Monitor image quality during scans and adjust equipment as needed.
- • Ensure patient safety, comfort, and privacy throughout examinations.
- • Prepare patients by explaining procedures, positioning, and applying gel.
- • Obtain and document relevant patient history and prior results.
- • Operate ultrasound systems to image organs, tissues, blood flow, and masses.
- • Choose appropriate presets, transducers, and scanning angles; optimize patient positioning.
- • Determine when to extend or modify the exam based on real-time findings and protocols.
- • Provide images and a concise technical impression to the interpreting physician.
- • Record, label, and archive images and cine loops in PACS/EHR.
- • Coordinate with physicians and the care team; assist during invasive procedures as needed.
- • Maintain comprehensive records and quality assurance documentation.
- • Perform legal and ethical duties, including informed consent and mandated reporting.
- • Clean, inspect, and maintain ultrasound equipment; arrange service when needed.
- • Maintain and prepare supplies, including for specialized examinations.
- • Handle scheduling, documentation, and other clerical tasks.
- • Perform basic clinical support, such as vital signs and emergency response (e.g., CPR).
