Description
Enforce U.S. customs, immigration, and agriculture laws at air, land, and sea ports of entry by inspecting travelers, conveyances, and cargo entering or departing the United States; detect violations, interdict contraband, determine admissibility, and assess duties and taxes.
- • Review passports, visas, and travel documents and interview travelers to determine admissibility.
- • Inspect baggage, cargo, mail, and conveyances for compliance with CBP and trade regulations.
- • Detain inadmissible persons or violators and initiate removal, prosecution, or other legal actions.
- • Locate and seize contraband, undeclared currency and merchandise, and associated conveyances.
- • Explain customs, immigration, and agriculture requirements to travelers, importers, and carriers.
- • Determine and collect applicable duties, taxes, and fees on imported goods.
- • Record inspections, findings, seizures, and enforcement actions in CBP information systems.
- • Coordinate and support civil or criminal investigations with DHS and partner law enforcement.
- • Testify in administrative hearings or federal court regarding inspections and enforcement decisions.
- • Collect and submit merchandise or evidence samples for examination, appraisal, or testing.
- • Review duty refund claims and process petitions for remission or mitigation of penalties.
