Description
Analyze import entries and merchandise to ensure compliance with U.S. customs, trade, and revenue laws; classify goods, determine value and origin, assess duties and taxes, and coordinate admissibility and enforcement actions.
- • Review entry and entry summary documentation, invoices, and shipping records for compliance and admissibility
- • Classify merchandise under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and determine applicable duties, taxes, and fees; apply trade preference programs
- • Determine customs value and country of origin and assess applicability of antidumping and countervailing duties, quotas, and special tariffs
- • Analyze trade data to identify high-risk imports and target shipments for examination and enforcement
- • Examine shipments and collect samples; request laboratory analysis to verify classification, composition, and regulatory compliance
- • Identify, detain, and recommend seizure of goods suspected of violating customs, intellectual property, safety, or trade laws; refer cases to investigative units
- • Interpret and explain customs and trade requirements to importers, brokers, and manufacturers; provide technical guidance and ruling recommendations
- • Evaluate and recommend action on protests, post-summary corrections, duty refund claims, and penalty mitigation petitions
- • Prepare and coordinate civil enforcement actions, including penalties and liquidated damages, with appropriate offices
- • Record and report case activities, findings, revenue determinations, and enforcement outcomes in CBP systems
- • Provide expert statements or testimony in administrative proceedings or court on classification, valuation, or admissibility decisions
