Description
Deploy detection canines to screen people, cargo, baggage, mail, vehicles, vessels, and aircraft at and between ports of entry; enforce customs, immigration, and agriculture laws by identifying contraband or concealed persons, detaining violators, seizing illegal goods, coordinating with partner agencies, and maintaining the canine’s training, health, and records.
  • • Conduct canine-assisted screening of travelers, baggage, cargo, mail, vehicles, vessels, and aircraft to detect contraband, agricultural threats, and concealed persons.
  • • Examine immigration documents and interview persons, using canine alerts to guide admissibility and compliance decisions.
  • • Detain individuals violating customs, immigration, or agriculture laws and coordinate arrest, removal, or referral for prosecution.
  • • Locate, seize, and process contraband and conveyances based on canine alerts and searches.
  • • Explain relevant laws, procedures, and traveler responsibilities to the public and trade community.
  • • Inspect cargo and baggage for regulatory compliance, integrating canine searches with physical examinations and technology.
  • • Document alerts, searches, seizures, interviews, and outcomes; complete incident, evidence, and canine training/deployment logs.
  • • Initiate or support civil and criminal cases; collaborate with federal, state, local, and international partners on joint operations.
  • • Testify in hearings or court regarding canine training, reliability, alerts, and enforcement actions.
  • • Collect, preserve, and submit evidence and samples, maintaining chain of custody.
  • • Train, condition, and care for the canine, ensuring health, certifications, equipment readiness, and safe deployment practices.
