Description
Operate and tend conveyor belts and belt systems that move materials or products between stockpiles, processing stations, departments, or vehicles. Control belt speed, load, and routing to ensure safe, efficient flow.
  • • Affix identifying tags or labels to materials or pallets.
  • • Position deflector bars, gates, chutes, or spouts to divert material from one belt to another.
  • • Weigh or measure materials and read belt scales to verify tonnage and prevent overloads.
  • • Use controls, levers, and valves to start belts, pumps, and auxiliaries; adjust speed, timing, and material flow.
  • • Record production data such as weights, types, quantities, locations, and equipment downtime.
  • • Report belt or equipment malfunctions to supervisors.
  • • Clean and maintain belts, pulleys, idlers, guards, and work areas using hand tools, brooms, chemicals, hoses, and lubricants.
  • • Monitor belt operation and indicators to maintain set levels and detect jams or faults.
  • • Review schedules and coordinate sorting, transfer procedures, and pallet destinations.
  • • Repair or replace belt components such as rollers, idlers, scrapers, and guards.
  • • Communicate with other stations to request or confirm material movements and incoming shipments.
  • • Stop belts and clear jams safely using tools; remove damaged material.
  • • Collect and label samples for quality checks or lab analysis.
  • • Load, unload, or adjust materials on belts by hand or with lifts, hoists, chutes, and hoppers.
  • • Distribute materials, supplies, and equipment to work stations with lifts or trucks.
  • • Move, assemble, and connect hoses, nozzles, chutes, and hoppers to belt feeds and storage tanks.
  • • Use console buttons to divert packages to accumulators or reject lines.
  • • Assemble temporary belt sections and connect power units.
  • • Strap and secure protective pallets or bundling around products as required.
  • • Observe packages on belts to identify items, spot defects, and perform quality control.
