Teach secondary students agricultural science, agribusiness, natural resources, and agricultural mechanics through classroom, lab, shop, greenhouse, and field experiences; manage agricultural facilities and equipment; advise FFA and supervise Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE); assess learning and ensure safety, industry relevance, and compliance with state standards.
  • • Prepare lesson materials and set up classroom, shop, lab, greenhouse, and school farm for activities.
  • • Maintain accurate student, SAE, and FFA records as required by law, district policy, and regulations.
  • • Instruct students individually and in groups using lectures, discussions, demonstrations, labs, and fieldwork.
  • • Establish and enforce classroom, lab, shop, and field safety rules and procedures.
  • • Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical well-being.
  • • Instruct and monitor safe use, care, and maintenance of agricultural and shop equipment and materials.
  • • Plan a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and hands-on agriculture projects that promote inquiry.
  • • Prepare, administer, and grade assessments and assignments to evaluate progress.
  • • Enforce all school and district policies and rules governing students.
  • • Assign and grade classwork and homework.
  • • Teach knowledge and skills for agricultural and natural resource careers through lectures, labs, shop, greenhouse, and field studies.
  • • Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate them to students.
  • • Use computers, ag technology, and multimedia to enhance instruction.
  • • Plan and supervise SAE and work-based learning with farms, agribusinesses, and school laboratories.
  • • Encourage exploration of agriculture pathways and persistence to prepare students for advanced study and work.
  • • Confer with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to address academic and behavioral concerns.
  • • Prepare course outlines and syllabi aligned to state CTE and AFNR standards.
  • • Guide and counsel students with academic challenges, adjustments, and agricultural career interests.
  • • Select, order, store, issue, inventory, and maintain ag/shop tools, equipment, PPE, feed, seeds, and supplies.
  • • Stay current on agricultural practices, technologies, certifications, and instructional trends.
  • • Meet with counselors, special educators, and employer mentors to discuss student needs and progress.
  • • Provide remediation and tutoring for students requiring extra help.
  • • Prepare required reports on students, program outcomes, FFA, SAE, and activities.
  • • Meet with families to discuss progress, set goals, and review SAE plans and resource needs.
  • • Plan and supervise agriculture class projects, farm and industry field trips, guest speakers, and career development events.
  • • Attend professional meetings, ag teacher conferences, industry trainings, and workshops to maintain competence.
  • • Advise the FFA chapter and coach students for leadership development, judging teams, and fairs.
  • • Collaborate with staff to develop, evaluate, and revise the agriculture program of study and cross-curricular projects.
  • • Place students in internships, seasonal jobs, or apprenticeships with agricultural employers or services.
  • • Coordinate lesson schedules, lab/shop rotations, and land-lab or greenhouse use with colleagues.
  • • Attend staff meetings and serve on school or district committees as required.
  • • Perform assigned supervisory and administrative duties such as hallway, cafeteria, and bus duty.
  • • Provide students with disabilities appropriate accommodations, assistive technology, and safe access to labs, shop, greenhouse, and field settings.
