Teach Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) to middle school students, delivering hands-on instruction in nutrition, culinary arts, textiles, child development, personal finance, and consumer skills while promoting safety, life skills, and career exploration.
- • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and lab safety in kitchens, textiles labs, and classrooms.
- • Instruct and monitor students in safe use and care of kitchen tools, sewing machines, small appliances, and materials.
- • Teach individuals and groups using demonstrations, labs, discussions, and projects in FACS topics.
- • Maintain accurate and complete student records in accordance with laws and district policies.
- • Prepare ingredients, lab stations, and materials for FACS activities and lessons.
- • Set clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects in nutrition, culinary, textiles, child development, and personal finance.
- • Plan balanced instruction with demonstrations, lab time, and reflection to promote inquiry and problem-solving.
- • Differentiate instruction and materials to meet varied needs, interests, and dietary or cultural considerations.
- • Create, administer, and grade assessments, rubrics, and performance tasks to measure skills and knowledge.
- • Enforce school and program policies and procedures.

- • Communicate with families, counselors, and administrators to address behavior, academics, or safety concerns.
- • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss progress, lab fees or materials needs, and supports.
- • Prepare for classes and maintain lesson plans, recipes, and project guides for review.
- • Provide remediation, reteaching, and enrichment for students needing additional support or challenge.
- • Provide accommodations, adaptive tools, and accessible lab setups for students with disabilities.
- • Collaborate with specialists such as special education, ELL, and the school nurse to support student needs.
- • Prepare required reports on student progress, lab usage, inventory, and safety.
- • Plan and supervise projects, service learning, guest speakers, culinary competitions, or field trips related to FACS.
- • Participate in professional development, conferences, and industry trainings to maintain FACS expertise.
- • Work with grade-level and CTE teams to plan interdisciplinary units and schedules.
- • Help develop, evaluate, and refine middle school FACS programs and curricula.
- • Attend staff meetings and serve on school or safety committees as assigned.
- • Perform supervisory duties such as cafeteria or hallway monitoring and bus duty.
- • Sponsor or advise FCCLA or related student organizations and events.
- • Select, order, inventory, store, and maintain food, fabrics, equipment, and lab supplies; manage budgets and purchasing.
