Description
Perform noninvasive vascular ultrasound and physiologic tests to evaluate arterial and venous circulation for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. Conduct duplex/Doppler studies and segmental pressure and flow assessments, documenting hemodynamics and vascular pathology to assist physician diagnosis and treatment.
- • Perform duplex ultrasound examinations of carotid, peripheral arterial and venous systems, abdominal aorta/iliac, renal and mesenteric vessels, and dialysis access.
- • Conduct physiologic vascular testing, including ABI/TBI, segmental pressures, PVRs, toe pressures, and treadmill or post-exercise studies.
- • Prepare, position, and drape patients for vascular imaging and testing.
- • Explain procedures to patients and obtain cooperation, addressing questions and reducing anxiety.
- • Obtain and document patient identification, history, symptoms, and vascular risk factors; record accurate measurements and findings.
- • Apply and operate blood pressure cuffs, photoplethysmography, and other sensors for limb perfusion testing.
- • Adjust ultrasound settings and machine controls per protocol to optimize B-mode, color, and spectral Doppler images.
- • Observe ultrasound displays and Doppler waveforms to evaluate patency, flow direction, velocities, and overall hemodynamics.
- • Calculate ABI/TBI, velocity ratios, resistive indices, and other hemodynamic parameters to grade stenosis or insufficiency.
- • Measure plaque morphology, stenosis severity, vessel diameters, and aneurysm size; document with images and annotations.
- • Identify and document deep vein thrombosis, venous reflux, pseudoaneurysm, endoleak, graft or stent patency, and other vascular pathologies.
- • Perform vein mapping for bypass or dialysis access planning and preoperative marking as directed.
- • Monitor patient comfort and safety and vital signs when indicated; alert clinicians to worrisome changes or critical findings.
- • Assist physicians during ultrasound-guided vascular procedures or intraoperative exams, maintaining a sterile field.
- • Maintain and calibrate vascular lab equipment; perform routine quality control and arrange service as needed.
- • Adhere to lab protocols, accreditation, and quality assurance standards; participate in peer review.
- • Prepare, label, and archive images and worksheets in PACS; generate preliminary sonographer reports for physician interpretation.
- • Coordinate scheduling, verify orders and indications, and manage supplies for the vascular lab.
- • Educate patients on post-exam instructions and basic vascular health as appropriate.
- • Train and mentor new technologists or students in vascular testing techniques.
- • Track and schedule surveillance exams for grafts, stents, EVAR, or carotid disease per protocol.
