Description
Perform echocardiographic imaging to evaluate cardiac anatomy, function, and hemodynamics for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. Acquire and analyze transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms; document measurements; and collaborate with physicians to support patient care.
  • • Check, calibrate, and maintain echocardiography equipment; troubleshoot minor issues and report malfunctions.
  • • Adjust protocols and settings based on physician orders or lab standards.
  • • Document measurements and technical impressions; upload studies to PACS and complete worksheets.
  • • Assist with scheduling, documentation, and supply management as needed.
  • • Participate in quality assurance, accreditation, and peer review activities.
  • • Precept and train students or new technologists in echocardiography procedures.
  • • Perform transthoracic echocardiograms to assess cardiac structure and function.
  • • Perform or assist with transesophageal echocardiograms, including patient preparation and monitoring.
  • • Conduct treadmill or pharmacologic stress echocardiography while monitoring ECG, blood pressure, and symptoms.
  • • Explain procedures, obtain consent per policy, and reduce patient anxiety.
  • • Verify patient identity; obtain and document pertinent cardiac history and indications.
  • • Prepare and position patients; attach ECG leads for image gating.
  • • Optimize images by adjusting transducer position, depth, gain, and Doppler settings.
  • • Acquire standard and additional views; record cine loops and still images per protocol.
  • • Obtain spectral and color Doppler data; measure velocities, gradients, and regurgitation.
  • • Calculate ejection fraction, valve areas, chamber dimensions, and cardiac output.
  • • Compare measurements to reference ranges and note abnormalities for physician review.
  • • Alert physicians to critical findings or patient instability during or after exams.
  • • Administer or assist with administration of ultrasound contrast or agitated saline; monitor for reactions.
  • • Maintain aseptic technique; clean, disinfect, and reprocess probes, including TEE probes, per guidelines.
