Description
Operate field and studio cameras to capture news events and live shots for television and digital platforms. Collaborate with reporters and control rooms to compose, light, and record high-quality footage under tight deadlines.
- • Operate video cameras to capture news events, interviews, and b-roll for broadcast and digital platforms.
- • Compose and frame shots, managing focus, exposure, white balance, and color temperature to meet editorial standards.
- • Apply lighting techniques with portable LED kits to achieve clean, consistent news visuals.
- • Configure and monitor field audio using wireless lavaliers, handheld microphones, and boom microphones.
- • Operate zoom and focus controls smoothly to follow action and adjust framing during live and recorded shoots.
- • Use handheld, tripod, shoulder-mounted, gimbal, or vehicle-mounted camera setups as needed.
- • Set up and execute live shots, establishing IFB and intercom and coordinating cues with control rooms.
- • Set up and operate ENG microwave trucks, bonded cellular transmitters, or satellite uplinks to send live and recorded content.
- • Monitor signal quality, audio levels, and return video during live transmissions; troubleshoot issues quickly.
- • Collaborate with reporters, producers, photojournalists, and assignment editors to plan coverage and shot sequences.
- • Scout locations for safety, access, lighting, and background composition; secure credentials and permissions when required.
- • Edit video packages, VO/SOTs, and teasers using non-linear editing systems under tight deadlines.
- • Ingest, log, and transmit footage from the field via FTP, cloud, or newsroom systems; maintain accurate metadata.
- • Maintain, clean, and perform minor repairs on cameras, lenses, lights, and audio gear; manage batteries and media.
- • Follow newsroom safety protocols and legal and ethical guidelines, including respecting scene restrictions and privacy laws.
- • Read and interpret rundowns, call sheets, and assignment details to determine locations, timing, and equipment needs.
- • Drive and safely position ENG vehicles; run cables and establish power as needed.
- • Archive, back up, and label media; maintain equipment inventories and logs.
- • Stay current with news camera and transmission technologies and best practices.
- • Train or mentor junior crew on camera setups, shot discipline, and live-shot procedures.
