Operate motion picture cameras to capture scripted scenes for feature films and narrative productions, executing camera moves and settings to realize the cinematographer's vision.
  • • Operate motion picture cameras to capture scenes for feature and narrative films.
  • • Compose and frame shots per director/DP direction, applying lenses, filters, and settings.
  • • Execute camera moves with dollies, cranes, Steadicam/gimbals, and handheld rigs.
  • • Coordinate with the 1st AC to maintain focus, iris, and zoom during shots.
  • • Adjust camera position, framing, and exposure based on blocking and lighting.
  • • Collaborate with the DP, director, gaffer, and key grip on shot sequences and camera moves.
  • • Assess sets and locations for camera placement, sightlines, and lighting needs.
  • • Set up cameras, lenses, matte boxes, filters, follow-focus units, and monitors.
  • • Balance and tune stabilization systems and heads (fluid, geared, and remote).
  • • Interpret shot lists, storyboards, lens charts, and camera reports.
  • • Calculate exposure, frame rate, shutter angle, depth of field, and filtration.
  • • Monitor framing, eyelines, and continuity during rehearsals and takes.
  • • Operate onboard and remote start/stop and manage timecode/run-stop sync.
  • • Review rehearsals or dailies to troubleshoot motion, blur, and focus issues.
  • • Call cues and timing to dolly grips, crane techs, and the camera team.
  • • Instruct additional operators or assistants on setups, angles, and movement.
  • • Ensure safe camera operation and rigging practices on set.
  • • Clean, test, and maintain camera bodies, lenses, and accessories; report faults.
  • • Stay current with cinema camera systems, lenses, stabilization, and imaging tools.
  • • Coordinate with the DIT or loader on media or film handling, slating, and camera data.
