Description
Build and repair structures by laying and binding brick, block, and natural or manufactured stone with mortar, grout, or adhesives to form walls, foundations, facades, chimneys, walkways, and retaining structures.
  • • Construct plumb, level corners and leads using corner poles or pyramids and lines to guide each course.
  • • Lay out work from reference points and mark guidelines with levels, plumb bobs, lasers, and squares.
  • • Calculate courses, bond patterns, and vertical and horizontal alignment.
  • • Anchor masonry to structures using ties, anchors, rebar, or epoxy; install flashing and control joints.
  • • Cut and shape brick, block, or stone with trowels, hammers, chisels, or power saws.
  • • Spread, butter, and tool mortar; finish joints for a uniform, weather-tight appearance.
  • • Interpret blueprints and drawings to determine specifications and material quantities.
  • • Mix and adjust mortar or grout to the required consistency and color.
  • • Inspect existing masonry to identify damage and repair needs, including repointing.
  • • Prepare substrates by cleaning and dampening surfaces; remove dust, old mortar, or coatings.
  • • Lay and align brick, block, and stone for walls, veneers, chimneys, fireplaces, steps, and retaining walls.
  • • Remove cracked or failed units and mortar using hand tools or demolition equipment and replace as needed.
  • • Install pavers, caps, and stone veneer; level and compact bases or bedding as required.
  • • Apply sealants or water repellents and perform final cleanup of work areas.
