Description
Construct, align, and repair structures using concrete masonry units (CMU), cinder blocks, and related blocks, bonding with mortar and grout to build walls, partitions, foundations, and retaining structures in accordance with plans, codes, and tolerances.
  • • Build plumb corner leads for block walls and stretch lines to guide each course.
  • • Measure from benchmarks and mark layout lines using levels, tapes, and plumb bobs.
  • • Calculate courses, bond patterns, and maintain vertical and horizontal alignment.
  • • Spread mortar beds and butter block ends for proper bonding.
  • • Lay and align concrete and cinder blocks for walls, partitions, foundations, and retaining walls.
  • • Cut blocks to size with hammer, chisel, or masonry saw.
  • • Place reinforcing steel, anchors, and embeds; tie and space per specifications.
  • • Grout block cores and bond beams to meet structural requirements.
  • • Install flashing, weeps, control joints, and wall ties to manage moisture and movement.
  • • Tool joints and clean excess mortar for a uniform finish.
  • • Read blueprints and specifications to plan work and estimate materials.
  • • Mix mortar and grout to specified consistency.
  • • Remove damaged blocks or mortar using hand and power tools and make repairs.
  • • Clean and prepare surfaces and work areas before laying block.
