Examine and interpret accounting records to compute tax liabilities and prepare accurate federal, state, and local returns and provisions. Advise on tax planning and compliance, maintain tax accounting and reporting systems, and support audits and inquiries by tax authorities.
  • • Prepare and review federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals and businesses.
  • • Compute taxes owed, estimated payments, and extensions in accordance with current tax law.
  • • Collect and analyze financial data to determine taxable income and identify adjustments, deductions, and credits.
  • • Research tax laws, regulations, and rulings to resolve issues and ensure compliance.
  • • Maintain tax calendars and file periodic returns, including income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, and property taxes.
  • • Prepare detailed workpapers and supporting schedules from accounting records.
  • • Reconcile tax accounts and general ledger balances, including deferred tax assets and liabilities.
  • • Prepare quarterly and annual income tax provisions and disclosures under ASC 740.
  • • Review trial balances and financial statements to ensure accurate tax reporting and book-to-tax reconciliations.
  • • Develop and document tax policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • • Monitor legislative changes and communicate impacts to management or clients.
  • • Advise on tax-efficient structures, transactions, and entity selection.
  • • Respond to IRS and state notices and coordinate audits and examinations.
  • • Draft correspondence, information requests, and audit responses for tax authorities.
  • • Prepare amended returns and refund claims as needed.
  • • Analyze state and local tax nexus and registration requirements.
  • • Calculate, file, and remit sales and use taxes; reconcile exemption certificates.
  • • Coordinate with payroll to ensure accurate withholding, deposits, and payroll tax filings.
  • • Prepare and file information returns such as Forms 1099 and 1098; reconcile vendor data.
  • • Maintain organized electronic tax files and documentation in accordance with retention policies.
  • • Use tax preparation, provision, and research software; ensure data integrity and security.
  • • Forecast cash taxes and effective tax rates to support budgeting and cash flow planning.
  • • Identify tax risks and savings opportunities and recommend corrective actions.
  • • Review work prepared by staff and provide training on tax compliance procedures.
  • • Partner with accounting, finance, and legal teams on transactions and period-end close.
  • • Prepare adjusting journal entries for current and deferred taxes.
  • • Prepare management reports summarizing tax positions, exposures, and audit status.
  • • Ensure timely compliance with all tax payment, filing, and recordkeeping requirements.
  • • Support transfer pricing documentation and related filings where applicable.
  • • Review fixed asset and inventory capitalization methods for tax compliance, including UNICAP and depreciation.
