Description
Develop, edit, and coordinate technical specifications and project manuals for design and construction projects, translating design intent into clear, code-compliant, enforceable documents.
- • Meet with architects, engineers, and clients to define scope, performance criteria, and product preferences.
- • Present specification outlines and drafts for team review and incorporate feedback.
- • Adjust specification language to suit delivery method, performance or prescriptive approach, and project complexity.
- • Research materials, systems, and products; evaluate certifications, test data, and warranties.
- • Customize master specifications (e.g., CSI MasterFormat/SectionFormat) to project requirements.
- • Write clear, enforceable technical requirements, including execution, quality, and performance criteria.
- • Review codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., IBC, ASTM, ANSI, UL) to ensure compliance.
- • Coordinate with consultants to align discipline-specific sections and responsibilities.
- • Cross-check specifications with drawings and BIM to resolve conflicts and fill gaps.
- • Define submittals, quality assurance, mockups, inspection, closeout, and O&M requirements.
- • Prepare Division 00 and 01 procurement and contract requirements with project managers and legal.
- • Consult with manufacturers and product reps to verify capabilities, substitutions, and availability.
- • Edit and update existing sections; manage version control and change history.
- • Assemble and issue the project manual; prepare addenda and clarifications during bidding.
- • Document sustainable and health criteria (e.g., LEED, EPDs, VOC limits) where applicable.
- • Maintain and improve office master specifications and templates based on lessons learned.
- • Track basis-of-design products and approved substitutions throughout the project.
- • Follow firm QA/QC procedures and train team members on specification best practices.
