Transportation Planners
Description
Advise public and private clients on transportation projects and policy. Gather, compile, and analyze mobility data to prepare feasibility studies and options analyses. Evaluate the use and operation of multimodal transportation systems. Develop and apply transportation models and simulations to support decisions.
  • • Advise on updates to urban boundaries or roadway classifications.
  • • Analyze traffic count data.
  • • Review development plans for network impacts, infrastructure needs, and regulatory compliance.
  • • Prepare transportation planning reports and recommendations.
  • • Produce environmental documents, including environmental assessments or environmental impact statements.
  • • Lead or support public meetings to present proposals and gather feedback.
  • • Develop computer models to address planning issues.
  • • Design transportation surveys to identify public concerns.
  • • Collaborate with engineers to resolve complex transportation design issues.
  • • Recommend system improvements based on economic, demographic, land-use, and traffic forecasts.
  • • Define transportation planning problems and priorities with stakeholders.
  • • Analyze land-use policy, environmental impacts, and long-range transportation needs.
  • • Collaborate to develop sustainable transportation strategies across scales.
  • • Interpret data from traffic models, geographic information systems, and related databases.
  • • Develop conceptual designs for junctions, pedestrian projects, transit facilities, or parking.
  • • Evaluate project needs, benefits, risks, and costs.
  • • Prepare documents to secure project approvals or permits.
  • • Assess transportation impacts of federal or state legislative proposals.
  • • Prepare or review engineering studies or specifications for clients.
  • • Represent clients in legislative or administrative approvals for land development or transportation projects.
  • • Plan and direct traffic counting programs.
  • • Develop or test transportation analysis methods or models.
