Description
Install, repair, and replace clay, concrete, or synthetic tile roofing systems. Prepare roof decks, apply underlayment and flashing, and cut, set, and secure tiles, ridge caps, and hip tiles to deliver durable, watertight roofs. May integrate skylights, ventilation, and solar mounts and perform leak repairs.
  • • Inspect tile roofs to diagnose leaks and determine repair or replacement procedures.
  • • Set up and secure scaffolding, ladders, and fall protection for roof access.
  • • Install and seal metal flashing at valleys, walls, chimneys, and penetrations.
  • • Install, repair, or replace clay, concrete, or synthetic tile roofing systems.
  • • Cut tiles and flashing to fit hips, valleys, ridges, vents, and intersecting surfaces, using wet saws or grinders.
  • • Install roofing underlayment, ice-and-water shields, and battens on sloped roofs.
  • • Lay out and set tile courses to proper exposure and headlap using chalk lines and gauges.
  • • Secure tiles with nails, screws, clips, wire ties, mortar, or foam adhesives per specifications.
  • • Install starter tiles, eave closures, drip edges, and bird stops to prevent water intrusion and pest entry.
  • • Set and seal ridge caps and hip tiles, including vented ridge components when specified.
  • • Form and install valley metal and pan flashing, ensuring proper water channels.
  • • Cover or seal exposed fasteners and penetrations with compatible sealants or mortar to prevent leaks.
  • • Remove old tiles, underlayment, and debris; clean and dry roof surfaces before installation.
  • • Repair or replace damaged roof decking and battens to provide sound substrates.
  • • Attach roofing underlayment in overlapping courses to form a base for tile installation.
  • • Drill or punch holes in tiles to accommodate fasteners or specialty fittings.
  • • Integrate and flash skylights, pipe boots, vents, and other roof penetrations with surrounding tiles.
  • • Install attic ventilation systems, such as ridge vents, gable vents, or exhaust fans.
  • • Coordinate and flash mounts for solar panel systems on tile roofs without damaging materials or structure.
  • • Perform leak testing and final inspections to verify watertightness and tile alignment.

  • • Hoist, stage, and distribute tiles and accessories safely on roofs to balance loads.
  • • Adhere to manufacturer instructions and local codes for fastening patterns, underlayment, and flashing details.
