Description
Diagnose, treat, and help prevent mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders in patients.
  • • Assess patient history, symptoms, and test results to diagnose mental disorders.
  • • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications safely and effectively.
  • • Provide psychotherapy and other evidence-based treatments.
  • • Develop and adjust individualized treatment plans.
  • • Collaborate with primary care, psychologists, social workers, and nursing staff on care.
  • • Document and maintain complete, compliant medical records.
  • • Order and interpret laboratory or diagnostic tests as indicated.
  • • Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments, and prognosis.
  • • Monitor treatment response, side effects, and safety; modify care as needed.
  • • Prepare reports, summaries, and referrals for agencies or payers as required.
  • • Participate in quality improvement, peer review, and community mental health initiatives.
  • • Pursue continuing education, teach, or contribute to research and publications.
